Green cars 'not necessarily cheaper'
Eco-friendliness is not a major factor for insurers when setting premiums for motorists, an expert at the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) has argued.
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at Biba, said that drivers looking to reduce their premiums should consider a cars insurance grouping rather than its green credentials.
He noted that small cars which give out less pollution would be cheaper to insure and that insurers take into account the overall value and power of the car when setting a premium.
There are currently 1,625 registered hybrid-cars in the UK.
Mr Trudgill added: "Eco-cars aren't necessarily cheap to repair and every car has a grouping between one and 50 so if you are worried about the price of insurance you should look at the grouping on the car and not how green it is."
In related news, the AA recently reported that the average car insurance premium in the UK has risen by six per cent in the last 12 months to £682.
