Green housing 'gaining popularity'
Eco-homes are becoming more popular and easier to get planning permission for, according to Green Moves UK.
It said that as the credit crunch helps to lower land prices and planners look more favourably upon eco builds, now is a great time to start building a green home or to upgrade an existing property.
Julian Brooks, managing director of Green Moves UK, said: "I would say the indications we are getting within the planning system is that the planners look much more favourably upon an ultra sustainable self-build than they would on just a conventional rabbit hutch."
In December last year, the government proposed to make regional planning authorities more focused on sustainable and energy efficient homes.
The Ecology Building Society doubled its lending in 2007 to £15 million. The organisation specialises in helping individuals build environmentally-friendly homes and to help other homeowners make energy efficient upgrades to their houses.
