Modern cars 'confusing Brits'

Up to a third of British drivers have admitted to not understanding what the warning lights on their car dashboards mean, according to vehicle insurer LV=.

New research published by the company has revealed that 37 per cent of UK motorists were confused by their own dashboards and in the event of a breakdown 74 per cent would not be able to repair the vehicle.

Only four per cent of motorists felt they had enough knowledge to take on the repairs, with 47 per cent admitting to a poor or "non-existent" understanding of modern engines.

Emma Holyer, spokesperson for Britannia Rescue, said: "There is little doubt that innovation has made driving a far more pleasurable experience, but it has made part time weekend mechanics a thing of the past."

In related news, the AA recently announced that the average car insurance premium rose by six per cent in the last 12 months to £682.
