UK motorists 'see fuel prices soar'

Two-thirds of the people questioned in a recent poll felt that if fuel prices continued to rise then they would not be able to cope, according to the price comparison site moneysupermarket.com.

In the survey of 1,600 people, 66.9 per cent said they were very concerned about the rising cost of fuel, while 29.2 per cent said that they were worried but felt they could cope with the increased strain on their finances.

Tim Moss, head of debt at moneysupermarket.com, said: "Rising fuel prices are a massive issue right now.

"Leading economists have been telling the government it can afford to drop the price of petrol by nine pence per litre without having any effect on its bottom line."

In related news, the price of crude oil rose by $5 (£2.51) a barrel to £135.09 yesterday (May 22nd).

Business minister Baroness Vadera today said that the UK is about to face its first real economic crisis in the last ten years, according to the Scotsman.
