UK Weddings 'forcing Brits into debt'
One in ten people would consider putting the cost of a wedding on a credit card, according to research carried out by Fool.co.uk.
A further three per cent would remortgage their property to pay for big day.
Of the 1,173 people interviewed, eight per cent would consider spending between £15,000 and £20,000 on a wedding, while 1.4 per cent would splash out over £30,000.
It also found that only five per cent of UK women would consider paying for their own wedding.
Donna Werbner, financial expert at Fool.co.uk, said: "If you stick all the costs of your wedding on a credit card, you could find your big day is memorable for all the wrong reasons - because you end up paying for it for the rest of your life."
According to the marriage advice website WeddingGuideUK.com, the average cost of a traditional church wedding in Britain is £11,000.
This figure includes £1,500 to be spent on the honeymoon.
