Drivers could save money through better driving habits
Insurance provider Swiftcover has released a set of tips that could help motorists improve their fuel efficiency and therefore make savings on their fuel bills.
According to the company's research, UK drivers could save up to £8 billion a year by improving their driving habits.
It advises smooth gear changes and lightening the load of the vehicle before setting off as key measures in improving fuel economy.
Also, limiting the amount of short journeys and avoiding rush hour driving will help as well.
Tina Shortle of swiftcover.com said: "Eco-driving is the new watch-word. Simple things like taking excess weight out of the boot, limiting heavy braking and keeping your car serviced can have a huge effect on cutting your fuel bill."
In related news, Prime Minister Brown has hinted that the proposed 2p increase on fuel charges could be pushed back to autumn following yesterday's protests in London where over 100 lorries blockaded the capital's roads.
